FDLI Food Week Report

FDAImports.com Founder and CEO, Benjamin England, was featured in this month’s FDLI Update for his presentation during Food Week 2012 entitled, “How to Use Existing Quality Systems to Comply with FSMA Requirements.”  Mr. England co-presented at the Food and Drug Law Institute’s (FDLI) annual Food Week Conference along with David Calvin, Associate Director of Quality Programs and Government Affairs at H.J. Heinz.  The presentation focused on documentation and system compatibility in light of emerging FSMA implementation policies.

England explained how to use existing systems in order to comply with the Hazard Analysis and Risk Preventative (HARPC) requirements and integration of that with the foreign supplier verification program.  He stated that “the question for companies like Heinz or anyone in the food supply, food chain, manufacturing, distribution, transportation, is – will the documentation that Heinz has established be the kind of documentation that FDA inspectors will be used to seeing.”  England encouraged the audience to think about the nontraditional reach that the statute has in the industry so far and how deeply it goes with compliance food requirements and international food trade.

FDLI’s annual Food Week Conference drew over 200 food law and regulation professionals over its 3-day span covering a variety of topics related to food and drug law, FSMA, globalization and litigation.
