This year at Natural Products Expo East 2014, in Baltimore, MD, September 17-20, FDAImports.com Partner Rick Quinn will be participating in the Retailer Town Hall Discussion entitled “Defining Natural.”  Mr. Quinn has been an integral part of this discussion at Expo West for a few years, and now is bringing his legal and business expertise to bear on this discussion on the East Coast.

Consumer interest in natural and organic products is only increasing, and producers who are spending the time and money to make their products greener want to let consumers know.  But without an official definition from FDA of the term “natural,” compliance-conscious businesses struggle with how to effectively and properly market their products.  FDAImports.com’s participation in previous Retailer Town Halls on this issue has brought to light that consumers and producers both are highly interested in FDA’s position on Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) and whether their presence in a product would negate its “natural” status.

FDAImports.com expects that, before FDA creates an official regulation regarding “natural” claims, an informal legal definition will arise through private litigation, self-regulatory consumer organizations, and consumer expectations.  To hear more about FDA’s thoughts on “natural” and what to expect in the coming years, attend the Retailer Town Hall Discussion at 5pm in Room 318 of the Baltimore Convention Center.
